A program of Arrow Child & Family Services, Freedom Place is a Christ-centered care and recovery center for underage female victims of domestic child sex trafficking. It is the first long-term, comprehensive care facility in Texas for underage victims of domestic child sex trafficking and is one of only five such facilities in the United States. Our mission is to offer a successful path to freedom for American children who have suffered as victims of commercial sexual exploitation.
Location(s) Where We Work
The Freedom Place care and recovery center is at an undisclosed location just outside of the Greater Houston area.
Freedom Place is a therapeutic recovery center for underage female victims of domestic child sex trafficking. At Freedom Place our program is not a short-term, ‘band-aid’ approach. Our program involves comprehensive rehabilitation that takes time, trust, and innovative, therapeutic models. The goal is to serve these deeply traumatized children and provide a healing environment, 24/7 professional care, education and therapy in the form of equine, art/music, and more programs.
By doing so, it is our mission to provide a successful path to recovery for these children who have suffered so much.
Every girl referred to Freedom Place receives a comprehensive assessment to ensure our program is a good option for treatment. It is important to note that Freedom Place is not a “lock-down” facility, nor a “safe house.” This is also not a short term solution but a comprehensive approach to complete healing and recovery. Therapy is intense and our treatment plan is based on each girl’s individual medical, psychological, emotional and educational need. The treatment plan includes family therapy as well as spiritual support. We also teach daily living skills, money management and job training. Our goals are to provide the tools needed to lead a healthy and productive life so that these deeply traumatized girls are no longer vulnerable to revictimization and exploitation.
Arrow’s Freedom Place, established in May of 2012 as a program of Arrow Child & Family Ministries, has many unique qualities and characteristics. The first and largest of its kind in the United States and located in the Greater Houston area, the 110 wooded acres and log cabins serve as a respite to young girls in need. Freedom Place is the only accredited facility in the USA, an honor that requires strict adherence to stringent guidelines. This unique facility is a healing, peaceful environment that was originally designed as a summer camp for foster children. Freedom Place consists of a main house where the girls reside; it includes 10 bedrooms, three separate living areas, two fully equipped kitchens, and several administrative offices. A transitional living cabin, therapy cabin, boutique, and several ancillary buildings are located on the property. While maintaining an intense therapeutic environment, Arrow understands these young girls need a lively and fun atmosphere as well. To accommodate those needs, the campus also has a lake with canoes, a handicapped accessible swimming pool, sports pavilion, and many lighted walking paths.
While Freedom Place sits among a beautiful physical setting, the brokenness of these young girl’s lives is addressed in the therapeutic model utilized by the professionals of this retreat like campus. Individual therapy occurs, minimally once a week, while group therapy happens daily.
Girls stay at Freedom Place can range from nine to 18 months. Our goal is to see these children who have suffered the most horrific of crimes be able to lead successful, productive lives free of victimization and exploitation.
Recently a graduate shared her heart with a staff member, “Thank you all so much for saving my life. It is hard to believe, but I am home, happy and have a healthy relationship with my brothers again. I never thought that would be possible.”
